Perhaps the journalists who criticized Mariah’s performance should get their ears checked or at least stop using the reactions of select celebrity audience members to determine the quality of a performance. The majority of the live audience in Las Vegas who heard Mariah Carey sing her new song “Infinity” responded with resounding applause.

I watched the performance on the televised show and listening through a good quality sound system, the singing was good. It was on pitch even though you could tell, by her placing her hand by her ear several times, that Mariah couldn’t always hear herself well. She had excellent backing singers and all the harmonies worked, so what’s the problem?

There was no problem so the journalists create controversy and critical comments based upon the fact that maybe a celebrity audience member was responding to a text message on her phone or another one looked less than enthusiastic during applause. Well, maybe the text message was from a babysitter relaying important information about a child or the less than enthusiastic celebrity was just envious or had a bad day. Who cares.

Let’s give credit where credit is due and disregard the unfounded harassment from journalists trying to imply issues that don’t exist. The point is that Mariah Carey is a very talented singer and her 2015 Billboard Awards show performance was excellent. She has recovered her voice nicely from the off-pitch live performances of last year. She deserves to be respected and admired.
